Coast Guard Visit
Our thanks to David, Mick and Noreen from the Achill Coast Guard Unit for taking time out to spend with the children. They stressed the importance of water safety, wearing life jackets at sea, taking note of the various flags, rip currents and then went on to give the children a greater understanding of the mountain rescue aspect of the Coast Guard Unit. The children were very much involved and hopefully the Coast Guard will have a few new recruits in years to come!

The Pirates arrived safely to Achill Sound and met Pirates from the other National Schools!
American Visitors
On Wednesday, we welcomed a group of 37 American tourists to the school. They were eager to experience a taste of our culture from the spoken Irish Language to our music. Lorraine, Áine and Leah taught them to play a tune on the Tin Whistle. The children sang some Irish songs for them and Mary Angela taught them cúpla focal.

Congratulations and well done to Jemma, Eugene, Leah, Áine & Finn who were confirmed on 23rd March 2017. We were very proud of them in the way in which they conducted themselves and carried out their respective “jobs”. A special word of thanks to Fr Murray for the various preparation ceremonies and for his attention to the children in the build-up to the day itself.
We thank the children from 2nd, 3rd and 4th Classes who were part of the Confirmation Choir with the Pollagh Folk Group. They have received much praise for their singing and were completely committed to all the practices. Thanks to Ann for all her work with them since December. Míle buíochas do gach duine.
Dooagh National School is the most westerly situated school on Achill Island which is connected to the mainland by a bridge. It is a three teacher, Catholic co-educational school catering for 31 children from infants to sixth class. The school was built in 1959 and extensive renovations were carried out in 2001. We have a broad catchment area due to the amalgamation of Crumpaun School in 1976. The villages served by the school include Dooagh, Pollagh, Newtown, Keel, Crumpaun and Slievemore and are serviced by a school bus. The school has five classrooms including a computer room/Library and a General -Purpose room. There is a small staff room which also serves as an office.
